Julfa is the administrative capital of the Julfa Rayon administrative region of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in Azerbaijan. Nakhchivan is located in the West Azerbaijan bordering with Iran, Turkey and Armenia.
Julfa was established in 1930 and is divided into two parts by Aras River. It borders with Shahbuz from north, with Iran from south, with Ordubad from east and with Nakhchivan and Babak from west. The second part, Jolfa, is located on the Iranian side of the border. The two towns are linked by a road bridge and a railway bridge.
The city has the population of over 41,038 people, as well as one town and twenty four villages. Golestan castle is a famous castle of the city and it also has mineral springs.
The importance of this city has been for being on the Silk Route.
