Passport and visa information
The following information represents state regulations, procedures and requirements for travel to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
This information is only intended for familiarization of travelers with general rules associated with their travel.

Entry regulations
For most citizens of the CIS countries and Turkey, a visa to Azerbaijan is not required.
Citizens of other countries are required to receive a visa at an Azerbaijani consulate or a consulate-general in foreign countries.
According to a Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On certain issues pertaining to the issue of visas to foreign nationals and stateless persons traveling to the Republic of Azerbaijan” dated 13 September 2010, foreign nationals and stateless persons may, starting from 15 October 2010, apply for visa directly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the following cases:
- In cases envisaged under interstate and intergovernmental treaties of the Republic of Azerbaijan;"
- Persons visiting the Republic of Azerbaijan on an official invitation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Chief-of-Staff of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic;"
- Persons visiting the Republic of Azerbaijan on an official invitation of the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Prosecutor-General of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the head of a central executive authority of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Chairman of the Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Head of the Administrative Department of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Head of the Special Medical Service of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the management of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Clerical Office of, heads of foreign companies operating in the Republic of Azerbaijan in accordance with international treaties supported by the Republic of Azerbaijan and agreed with the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan;"
- Employees of foreign diplomatic offices, consulates and representative offices of international organizations in the Republic of Azerbaijan, administrative and technical staff and their family members, as well as foreign citizens visiting the Republic of Azerbaijan on special diplomatic missions;"
- Persons visiting the Republic of Azerbaijan on an official invitation of the Ministry of Emergencies of the Republic of Azerbaijan to participate in the operations to eliminate the consequences of emergency situations;"
- Persons visiting the Republic of Azerbaijan due to the death of a family member (on the basis of confirmation documents);"
- In the event of visit by citizens of countries which do not have accredited diplomatic missions and consulates of the Republic of Azerbaijan but have direct air communication with the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Customs regulations
Foreign currency is subject to declaration upon arrival (included on the declaration). Carriage of personal belongings is not subject to any duties: up to 125 grams of caviar, three blocks of cigarettes, three liters of alcoholic beverages and medicines as required. The export of any antique items (including gems, coins and other works of art) without the permission of relevant bodies is prohibited. The import of narcotic substances, weapons and ammunition (except those for which there is a permit), literature and video material insulting the morality and laws of the country is prohibited. Currency
The national currency unit in Azerbaijan is the Azerbaijan Manat (AZN). Foreign currency and traveler cheques may be exchanged for the Azerbaijan Manat at any bank. Many banks and shops in the capital Baku take MasterCard/Visa cards.
